A witch, two fairies, a minor god, and four demons walk into a bar and suddenly Dwyer Eamonn’s life will never be the same. Turns out that Dwyer’s parents promised him—their firstborn—as payment when they made eight different deals with various supernatural beings.

This is 5000% a writing prompt I've seen on tumblr and I am HERE FOR IT

This is very much instalust/instalove between our hapless human and the demon he's immediately gagging for. Fortunately I was reading this for the hijinks and not for any kind of beautifully blossomed romance. The relationship part of it was kind of nice, in a bittersweet turned HEA kind of way.

The hijinks as Dwyer is forced to spend time with each of the supernatural beings that made a deal with his parents were mostly fun. There is some dubious consent involved with one of the beings but it is blatantly addressed and involves an apology and even a sort of redemption. I liked the premise and seeing a human thrown into this situation. Just as interesting was the epilogue and finding out what happened with the 6 other beings he doesn't choose (the 7th being the demon whose dick he's obviously gonna ride for eternity). I'm glad Delaney Rain included mention of them and the opportunity to build long-lasting friendships among the supernatural community.

I have mixed feelings for the big reveal around the last supernatural being as it implies that there is far less kindness and good in humanity than Dwyer had been led to believe his whole life. I think that part could have been toned down and stuck with only one or two benevolent parental roles. That would have been a better fit and hit the right spot emotionally. As it is, I went from being on the verge of being teary eyed to whip-lashed into "whoa that's actually kind of fucked up" confusion and depressing sadness in the space of like a paragraph.
