4.06 AVERAGE

This was my first read by this author and one thing I learned during that time is: it will not be my last!
This was a fast-paced, fun, rockstar romance with a dancer female lead. It was sort of interesting, as it never mentioned being set in the past but things like landlines and The Yellow Pages were prevalent and it felt like it had to be at least 2 decades old. That said, it was real in other ways, with the heavy drug and alcohol use.

Overall: 4 stars.

Dirty Verse
Dirty Rock, Book 1 (Leave Me Breathless)
By: Cassidy London, Dragonfly Ink Publishing
Narrated by: Marina Barrett, Vincent Skye

Jax is the one that doesn't get involved. But he does enjoy the nights out. This one in particular has a dancer his bandmate has a crush on so going back this last night is just for him. That is when his life takes a complete turn. Aria is a dancer, ready to find her big break. Helping out her friend occasionally
isn't ideal, but it's good money. Then in the VIP room, she meets Jax, and her heart is now stolen. Fun, easy, witty banter, incredible chemistry, Cassidy London left me breathless. The chase is on, and we get to hear and feel it all as Jax has to work for his woman. It's a fantastic listen and I will be watching for more from London!

Marina Barrett is an amazing narrator. She falls into character as the stubborn Aria, and takes us on her emotional journey. Vincent Skye is new to me and I loved his voice! He fit the role of rockstar and gave us the humor and love. This pairing is perfectly cast and an enjoyable listen.

This was a quick rockstar romance with two characters who I really struggled to gel with. I actually couldn't really get on board with any of the characters.

I understand rockstar romances show a darker side to the industry and the bad things that can claw their way into the characters over time but these were drastic. The characters were very surface level and everyone's reactions were unnecessary in terms of extremity.

Jax was a very hard character to like when he was constantly taking substances he shouldn't and knew he shouldn't. He then tried to turn this around for Aria but his excuses for going back to them were not well enough formed or strong enough arguments. Aria then found this out in a poor revelation at the end and it really did not sit well with me that she just let it slide. He was always yelling as well. Everything resulted in Jax yelling. He was taking overprotective and obsessive to another level.

Aria was very nieve, especially for a woman going into the music industry. I would have thought she would have had some knowledge. It didn't make sense since she had past experience working in the strip club and had an idea of what happened behind closed doors.

Dirty Verse by Cassidy London is a rockstar romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Marina Barrett and Vincent Skye. This is the first book of the Dirty Rock series and is set in the Leave me Breathless World.

This is the first book of Cassidy's that I have read, and it won't be my last. I loved that Jax and Aria had an instant connection, but they had to work toward their happily ever after. I really enjoyed getting both of their points of view throughout the book. It really brought the story to life.

I can't wait for the next book Dirty Chords to be released on December 2, 2022 so I can get Ace and Harley's story.

Marina and Vincent did a great job on the narration. They both really know how to bring a story to life. I look forward to listening to more of their work in the future.

Narrator review- both narrators were clear and easy to understand. I liked both the male and female voices. I thought they were good for the characters. I’d listen to these narrators again.
Story review- I love me a good rockstar romance, and this story delivered. Keep in mind there are some potential triggers (they say “sex, drugs, rock n roll” for a reason). I enjoyed listening to this audiobook and will probably listen to it again on my next road trip.

I received a review copy of this audiobook for free and am voluntarily leaving this review.

Great rockstar romance when Jax sees Aria he has an instant attraction to her but she’s not interested in the cocky rockstar . When he gets her to dance for their new video their chemistry is so hot Aria can’t deny how much she wants Jax.

4.5 big ol' shiny stars for this book!

I absolutely devoured this book and though I was a touch thrown in the begining as the book doesn't take place in the 2000s I really enjoyed it. The MMC and FMC where incredible together and though the MMC had his own demons he handled it well and stepped up so he could be the man that the FMC deserves!

The narration for this book was absolutely delicious! Both narrators sounded so good and melted right into their characters. The shift in tones of voice and expressiveness was next level!

Dirty Verse is the first book in the Dirty Rock series. This book is told from dual points of view by Jax and Aria.

Aria is a dancer and covers for her friend who is sick at a gentleman’s club. Jax is in a band and has lost his muse lately. When Jax sets his eyes on Aria he immediately has feelings. Jax asks for a private dance and gets to know her.

They separate ways but Jax can't stop thinking of her. He wants her in his music video and Aria could really use the money. Once there they start having to form with each other and start to go see each other often.

When Aria has a dream of a lifetime, can Jax support her choice? What happens when someone from one of their pasts tries to ruin something for one of them? Can Jax quit one of his bad habits for Aria? Will they get a happy ending?

A sexy rock star romance that showcases love and support and a sweet HEA. Jax and Aria meet when she does a favor for a friend at her strip club, and Jax shows up after one of his shows with the rest of his band. She’s a professional dancer, working hard to make it in her career. He’s struggling with the loss of his muse, his inspiration all but gone, and he’s buried himself in addictions to cope. When they first meet at the club, he immediately pulls her away to a private room - not for a dance or anything else, but because he wants to just talk to her, and get her away from all the other leering faces. And while that initially intrigues Aria, the night ends in a fist fight, and Aria walks away, completely uninterested in the troubled and troublesome rocker.

But Jax isn’t swayed easily. When his band needs to make a music video, and none of the models or actresses are hitting the mark for him during the auditions, Jax decides to take a chance and demand Aria for the part. When she gets the call, she’s shocked, but the money is too good for her to pass up, not to mention how good it will look on her CV, so she jumps at the shot. The steamy scenes in the video almost cross the line for them, and their chemistry is undeniable. But Aria is insistent she wants nothing to do with an addict, so she walks away after the job. Still, Jax is not deterred. He pursues, and she finds it more and more difficult to resist. When they finally stop fighting their attraction Jax immediately finds his inspiration, lyrics and music come flying out of him faster than they have in years. But Aria is her own woman, pursuing her own career - and that could end up tearing them apart.

Overall I really enjoyed this story. Jax is actually fully respectful and supportive of Aria and her career, pretty much no questions asked, even when he knows it could ultimately pull them apart. My only issue is that he is pretty significantly dependent on his addictions, and even though he recognizes that he has a problem that he needs to deal with, it’s not something he ever truly addresses in a hardcore way. Then it all seems to resolve itself fairly smoothly, with very little fanfare, which just seemed a bit unrealistic given the levels of his addiction prior to meeting Aria. But the romance is hot and sexy, with a side of sweetly romantic, and ultimately, that is what holds the story together in the end.
