I’m a sucker for
one final twist I can’t predict. I knew her mom staged the accident, but I didn’t suspect that she was still alive.

I use book clubs to get suggestions for books outside of my comfort zone. I would have never picked this book up, but I finished it. I rated it low because the mystery of the whole book seemed very forced. The way it started out and the way it pushed through the whole book didn't make sense. Which took me out of the magic of the reading experience. The environment building by the author was written well. I really felt like the events the main character went through in the past was actual history, which was nice. That was really what pushed me through to finish the book. Also, for once I didn't really see the twist at the end. Though, usually twists are foreshadowed and I don't think this one was at all. More like smoke and mirrors "quick look over there!" trope.

A strong thriller, this book makes for a quick read but the story itself feels slower, giving you an impression of creeping claustrophobia.

I enjoyed the premise and Olivia as a character, she was a more relatable protagonist than some in that she took (for the most part) the most practical steps that she could in her situation so you didn't find yourself facepalming at her decisions throughout.

I did feel the ending was a little abrupt but overall a really solid thriller that makes me want to see what else Megan Miranda has out there.
