I heard whispers of KTS when I was at school and I was so excited when I heard it was being published. The OG text is so authentic and for me so nostalgic, I am not Black nor was I ever part of that community fully but as is masterfully detailed in the essays Black British culture has such an influence on British culture and particularly the culture of London, it was integral to teenage life in the noughties (as I’m sure it is today). The story is a hard read, poor Keisha, she goes through so much. I was glad the rewrite rewrote some of the wrongs and finished the story with hope. The introduction and the essays are what make this book for me though, they are powerful and important and place KTS in its rightful place in the Pantheon of British literature.

Definitely read the TWs.

Can only imagine reading this as it was written in 2005… waiting for the next instalment to read and share. The writing is dialectic and colloquial to the area, which can be difficult to get used to. The story is followed by essays by Black folks affected and inspired by KTS.
