I didn’t see the twist in this one, and it had me screaming. There isn’t much I can praise or criticize without giving stuff away.

I can say this ended up being a five star read for me DESPITE the FMC. She is almost willfully naive.

Frieda McFadden has me hooked.

❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️ out of five sociopaths with oedipus complexes

This book was definitely a page turner and a quick read. I gave it 3.5 stars because after reading this book, there was nothing memorable about it. First things first, the FMC, Brooke is an idiot. So you mean to tell me that your son’s father gets sent to prison for murder and 10 years later, you recant your statement and he gets released ASAP? It doesn’t work like that in real life. All the warnings Tim gave her and she didn’t listen. She deserved everything she got. The old nurse at the prison said Shane was very manipulative; the guard at the prison warned her also and she still didn’t listen.

I can see how the Brooke thought Tim was behind the murders because of the different events that’s occurred, especially the situation that happened in the basement. One minute I thought it was Tim and the next Shane. The author did a great job of making you think one thing, and then BOOM she hits you with something else.

There were so many signs there when it came to Shane and Brooke was so oblivious to them. If someone that just got out of jail wants to take you back to the house where the murders were committed and take your son on a walk through the woods; without you, don’t you think that’s a red flag? She’s dumb for even going. I wouldn’t have even let that man stay with me until he got back on his feet. And she wasn’t crazy when she woke up in the middle of the night and thought that she heard her garage door opening. Shane went to go kill the guard from the prison. One thing I learned from this book, is you can’t trust anybody because they can paint this picture of being someone that they are not! The ending was a huge twist finding out everything. My fav part of this whole book, was the epilogue!

Loved it. I have yet to read a McFadden that doesn’t surprise me. I am still shook. How did I not see it coming?!

Not the best book I’ve read by this author but good for a different type of read. I found myself not really connecting with many of the characters and guessing some of the plot twists.

Brooke was told not to get close to the inmates at her new job as nurse practitioner at a prison but what her new boss doesn’t know is one of the prisoners are there because of her.

This book was so amazing! Just when I thought I knew who the bad guy was a huge twist would happen and it’s change! So crazy! I didn’t know what story to believe or what was the true story! And I loved every second of it!
