I've been following Stephanie Yeboah for a few years on IG and was really excited when she announced an entire book of just her content, and it definitely delivered.

I really enjoyed this book!! As a fat, mixed woman I found that I could relate a lot to what was said. I do however acknowledge that I’m white passing and so there were also aspects that I couldn’t relate to, but they were teaching moments, educating me on what it’s like to exist and grow up in a western society as a black, fat woman. The book is absolutely beautifully presented and I would recommend it to anyone and everyone!!

What an amazing book!

I met Stephanie Yeboah (virtually) a few years back at an event she did with Tortoise Media to promote this book. I found her friendly and engaging and ready to tackle any issues that came up during her talk head on.

By the end of the event I had followed her on Instagram and added her book to my to read pile on Goodreads (soz StoryGraph). I'm a slow one for getting round to reading a book but when I saw this one on a display shelf in my local library I had to go for it.

Stephanie is a wonderful writer. Her personal experiences are such a learning curve and her candid style ropes you in. I'm so glad that she is here making waves for a younger generation. I have learnt so much from this book.

Also, the book itself is just beautiful! The illustrations and coloured pages make this a work of art to hold. It's the perfect gift or coffee table book. I'm sad to be returning it to my local library but I'll be out to buy my own copy very soon.

I think this is an important book, paricularly looking at how racism and fatphobia intersect. I enjoyed Stephanie's writing style, lots of heart and openness, sometimes heartbreaking, sometimes funny. I enjoyed the audio book but it was sometimes confusing working out what was a quote and what was the main text so I'm glad I had a hard copy as well (which also meant I got to see all the lovely illustrations).

A must read for any fat woman out there. The right mix of personal anecdotes, great research and a pinch of humour and fun. You‘ll learn a whole lot about how and why fatphobia is rooted in racism and anti-blackness. On top of that, you will find what to do, who to follow, what to research if you want to embark on a journey of living your fat life unapologetically. Get this book now and read it. I‘ve waited too long, learn from my mistake!
