This is a book I sucked greedily dry, taking its characters’ anxieties in order to soothe my own. When the last page was read, I kissed my wife. I listened to her, both the words and the silences. I rested my hand on my children’s chests and felt their hearts beat, until they told me to ‘get off’. Stars, you ask, in return for this healing and renewal? I would cast a net through the sky and offer a sparkling torrent.

Besley is the master of short fiction and this is very short fiction indeed! Somehow Besley manages to tell convincing and intriguing stories with only 100 words. The great thing was the range too - some were funny, some odd, some curious, some uncomfortable, some tender, some sad. Besley takes you through so many emotions in very few words. She also whipped the ground out from beneath me a few times, changing my expectations with the final line, which I enjoyed. I really recommend this!

This book is a pure delight to read.

Short fiction that makes you think.

I loved how I could delve in and out of it, picking it up and perusing a new tale each time I turned the page.

Clever, witty in places and quite meaningful.

The words felt like they were put together with purpose.

Highly recommended!
