I am glad I tripped over this because I have read the rest of the series. I really love the setting of these books, and the sort of locked door mystery aspect of them. They really get down to motivation, human nature...I always find them intriguing. I was glad to see Perez doing a bit better, and like the intro of what seems to be a strong female character.

Great series. I thought this one’s whodunnit was a bit over-the-top, but still a good book in the series.

I’m fascinated by Ann Cleeves ability to perfectly pace a novel! Her mysteries are the very definition of “slow burn”, beginning gently, with beautiful descriptions of the landscape of the Isles, and slowly building up a frenetic pace by the climax. Masterful story-telling!

Ann Cleeves need to write more frequently for this series. The last book was 2010. Hopefully she won't wait so long for the next book. Her writing is sharp & clear with just the right amount of empathy & character development. Have not read her Vera series but think I will give it a try.
