This would have been a near 5 star for me but the ending?! wtf???? zero closure!

otherwise an excellent read, I devoured this in 3 days. some of the red herrings are obvious in the writing but that I can forgive. The ending I cannot.

Spoiler ending  felt like too many twists that didn’t all add up or feel complete. Ending was too graphic for me. No loveable characters

I could not have guessed the ending, what a twist! But it did make sense and it was a great whodunnit. Devastating though.

I’m a huge fan of Ashley Flowers and her podcasting. Crime Junkie was certainly my gateway into true crime podcasts.

I’ll admit, it was challenging finding a grip on this story. I felt a lack of immersion and the characters fell a bit flat for me. It definitely had some great potential, but was a little more predictable than I would have liked. Some of the plot’s twists came out of nowhere with a lack of build up to them. Also, the ending just…ended. Abruptly.

I did like the dynamics of the story, and the idea that nobody is who you think they were. Each character had a secret, which built a level of complexity to the mystery. There was a lot of telling and not showing with the writing, which I think was one of my biggest reasons of not being able to connect with the protagonist and the plot line.

I think the book started slow for me and I was kind of concerned because it felt like exactly the JonBenét Ramsey case. With some of the ideas of plagiarism for this author, I was kind of concerned. However, when she finally decides to make this case completely take a different turn from the Ramsey case, that’s what I was able to really enjoy the mystery a lot more. But I still felt so much like the JonBenét Ramsey case that I never fully let go of that feeling. Which is why it’s not five star for me but I definitely couldn’t put it down and I definitely enjoyed it. I actually liked the cliff hanger ending too, it made up for some of the tropes. It left me wondering and I love that.
