I'm so so notorious for giving everything 5 stars and it may just be because I love Crime Junkie but this book is now in my top 5. I think it was very well written and the twists all shocked me (even if I did figure out a couple). And THAT ENDING.  Our story follows a duel timeline with Margot in 2019, trying to solve not only the murder of her childhood friend but also the murder of another child; and on the other side we have Krissy in the 90's who discovers her child, January, dead in her own home. This book is so twisty and so great. If you like Crime Junkie (or not, I don't know your life), murder mysteries and shocking twists and turns out of your thrillers, give this book a try. This was Ashley Flowers very first novel and she absolutely killed it in the best way. (Pun intented).

I enjoyed the book and was surprised by the ending. Though I would have liked a more definitive ending, I liked being surprised by who the murderer was. I do wonder though
if Officer Wallace was a red herring or why she was in the book but not mentioned with the serial child murderer. Was it because of the time gap?
Overall it was a twisty thriller that I enjoyed, with just that one plot hole.

This book surprised me! The best thrillers are the ones where you have no idea what’s coming, and while I tried to guess throughout the story, I did not expect the ending. Please check the content warnings for this one because it was dark. But if you’re a thriller fan, I would definitely recommend it!

Thank you so much to Ashley Flowers, Bantam, and NetGalley for this eARC!

January Jacobs is murdered after going missing from her home in Wakarusa, Indiana in 1994. After 25 years, the case is still unsolved. Reporter Margot Davies moves back to Wakarusa to help care for her Uncle Luke. When she arrives in Indiana, Margot learns of another young girl, Natalie Clark, who has gone missing. The residents of Wakarusa, and Margot, are convinced that these two cases are linked. Can Margot prove that the same perpetrator was responsible for both January’s murder and Natalie’s disappearance, or will she lose everything along the way?

What an incredible debut from Ashley Flowers! If you love thrillers, podcasts, and true crime, you’ll enjoy this book. It’s incredibly fast paced, and you really aren’t sure who you can trust as you are reading. I loved the small town gossip that helped Margot along her way, and I love all of the connections that pulled the story together. Such a great read!
