Full transparency, I find it difficult to give a proper ‘review’, bc this is truly a book you should go into blind (Although I do recommend checking trigger warnings). Abstract’ish, non spoiler impressions? Unexpected everything! A lovely descent in, and out of madness. And there’s a cat! So a successful psychological horror/thriller/something between the two as far as item concerned. Well written (really lovely writing), oddly satisfying ending, but also- that feeling you get after you read one of those books is…😱🤯🤪 well, my brain Is still in recovery. However, I found this book to be deliciously well executed. Totally recommend for those moments you need your brain turned inside out for the sake of literature and the joy of actual unpredictability.

One of those books I wish I could forget and read again. I love the unreliable narrators and the twists and turns so much.

I know this book is considered horror, but I think it’s more accurate to call it psychological. Reminds me of how I felt watching Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho. Ted is a character for whom I’ll have infinite compassion. Dee, less so, but she too could benefit from kindness and therapy. I feel so deeply and heavily sorry for Ted. This may be the best fictional work I’ve read on DID. It’s a rare disorder but one that those who suffer from it could be greatly helped if we had more books about it, both fictional and scientific.

Holy shit? Not much to say other than I've never read a book like this before. This was a rollercoaster of emotions and if nothing else, this book is extremely effective at getting you to feel such a wide range of emotions. Not much you really can say without spoiling it. I'll genuinely be thinking about this for the rest of my life. Soooo many TWs though, take a look if you're triggered (even a little bit) by anything.
