I had a feeling I would enjoy this book by the title alone. I strongly believe in the title. Life can be ruthless at times, but if you don't give up, eventually, no matter how long, good things will come if you work for them.
My first impressions on the first chapter were not the best. I felt the lettering was too small and I didn't love the blue tones in the black and white illustrations.
All that was quickly gone in the following chapters. I ended up loving the illustrations and everything about the book.
There is a lot of personal reflection here. About life and relations with other people. It's almost like living and experiencing the emotions and thoughts of a different person. Thoughts and emotions that in part, you'll probably relate yourself to.
It's not a happy book. It's probably not the best option if you're feeling extremely happy, but it's also a hopeful story.
The main storyline is only there to support everything else that actually matters.
A huge recommend.

Idk honestly. I liked the art and the concept. I liked the talk about childhood but ISTG Seth was just insufferable and I lost count at how many times I wanted to punch him in the throat...

Insightful, relaxing read, a glimpse into the mind of the author and his particular fixation on cartooning. I love Seth and reading his thoughts on the world, humanity, his own mind. A lot of his particularities remind me of myself, but I romanticize the 90s instead of the 30s, and I don't walk around in a fedora everywhere.

Guy goes to a small town to find out about an obscure cartoonist from the 60s; turns out quite melancholy and introspective. What do you want to be, how do you look back on a life that doesn't go quite how you want, how do you make peace with change, or mistakes, or failures? Not exactly a masterpiece but definitely interesting, & I love that it's based on the author's actual experience learning about the cartoonist.

A touchingly nostalgic graphic novel drawn from the pages of Palookaville that focuses on Seth's search for the work of an obscure gag cartoonist known as Kalo who once had a cartoon published in The New Yorker.
