Beautiful historical fiction about a group of female librarians in a mining town in the Cumberland Mountains of Kentucky. Romance, intrigue, adventure, murder, female friendship, social issues such as womens' rights, literacy, unions, inequality, race, and more. This book left me breathless at times and I couldn't put it down!

This was a great book! Another historical fiction (apparently my favorite) about Packhorse Librarians in Kentucky. The women delivered library books during the Great Depression to homes all around, near and far. This beautiful book follows their journey and how life was like, during this time. It was a little long for me, which is why I gave it 4 stars but it’s definitely worth a read!

This was a slow start (so much so that as soon as I started to get into it my library hold expired and I had to re-request). However, it’s worth it to push through as this book does get very good! I really enjoyed it.

Fun historical fiction about a travelling library in rural Kentucky. Reminded me a bit of Where the Crawdad Sings stylistically, but a little less odious because it was a little less sexist.

I wish we could give half stars on Goodreads...

3.5 stars

Started slow, loved the middle, didn’t care for the ending. Wasn’t expecting the legal turn the book took and wasn’t as into it as I was with just reading about the librarians (which I thought was excellent).

Very solid listen! Never got bored, loved these characters, and loved this story in general. Great historical fiction novel and tells of a time that I never learned about. Great read.
