"Queen of the Unwanted" is the sequel to "The Women's War" and I have to say it holds up to the first. This book introduces a few new characters who are interesting, flawed, and eventually lovable, which I think is fantastic. The world the story is set in is also very interesting.

I will say, most of the negative comments I made about the first book also apply to this one (no LGBT+ characters in a society where it would absolutely make sense, the only described overweight person is a horrible human being, etc...) and that was a bit disappointing.

However, the story itself was interesting and I enjoyed reading it. I think I will also read the 3rd book in the series.

I don’t feel that this one was as strong as the first novel. It felt like a lot of politics for most of it. But it really set up and went for it at the end so I’m really excited to see what happens next!

I enjoyed book two even more than the first book. Planning on reading the novella and can’t wait for book three this year

Enjoyable sequel to the women’s war, interesting twists and turns. I like the development of women’s well as a feminist beacon. Ellin and Zarsha are compelling. Delnamal is comically dumb.

Drama! Up to 11! At all times!
I was really not wild about the forced (sorry, arranged) marriage and fertility plot.

But I still want to read whatever happens next even though I expect to be thoroughly annoyed by most of the characters.

That ending was good!! The type of ending that gets me to immediately look to see if then library has the next book.

In this book the effects of women having more control over their reproductive rights are explored. The men who dislike anyone having power rage and threaten those weaker then themselves by using physical force to subjugate women. Some women willingly work within that system to gain more personal power by subjugating other women. Others look at pushing the advantage for more freedoms.

Of course this is all done in a fantasy world with a range of characters.

The characters do follow some obvious tropes. Delnamel is the overindulged little boy who now has power who gets angry when people do not do what he expects. He has his toadies too. There are some unexpected characters like Tynthaniel, who is a more modern male character. His sister is also a surprising character.

As usual I am not going to give away the plot, so I am going to leave it at that.
