I'm not sure how to rate this. There's a lot of good information in here for new parents I was a bit uncomfortable with the wording of some of it. For example one of the chapters talks about declaring 'war' on autism for it's the 'enemy' which left me feeling kind of uncomfortable. The reader is also addressed to formulate a 'battle plan' while in their 'war room' so they can create a defense strategy. I guess I just don't think of such terms when it comes to planning what's best for one's child.

That said in the same chapter there is discussion of acceptance, learning to acknowledge that raising a child with autism can be done and done well, loving your child and more. I also liked that in the chapter is it acknowledged that one has to consider their own needs at the same time they are working on their child's needs.

I'm not exactly the target audience for this book so perhaps that's part of my discomfort. I am not an autistic parent (though sometimes I feel like one) but the sibling of an autistic individual. To note I've been a caretaker since I was a teenager and have grown up with autism in my life.

Things that I also liked were the advice to see your child as a person & not a disability, to accept that child 100% and love them just as any other child.
