3.5? 3.75? idk.

I entered this book without any prior context of the universe it is set in. I didn't now the characters, I didn't know the history of the town, etc. On top of this, it was my first Dan Simmons read. Overall I liked it! I thought that he handled the supernatural a bit differently than I've seen before, and I enjoyed the change of pace there. The excessive amount of Old English threw me for a loop, as I skimmed over it not knowing what I was reading until it was explained to me in the next paragraph. All around a good haunting though, and it has inspired me to start his first book in the town, Summer of Night.

I borrowed this only because The Terror is one of the best shows I've ever seen. I listened to the audio book read by Bronson Pinchot from Perfect Strangers and he was excellent. Really first class narrator who gave this at times confusing, strange and mixed up story some true emotional weight. It's not
really a ghost story, it's a story about memory and madness, misplaced nostalgia for youth and the regrets of old age. Very enjoyable listen.

A fun haunting that turned out to be much deeper than that.

This was absolute genius! Some places were spooky, but mostly, it was just mesmerizing. Gobbled it up and can't wait for more from this author!

The writing was phenomenal and the audio narration was perfect.

Loved it! 5 stars! Highly recommend!!!
