Meh
I enjoyed the imagery and the concept. I’ll probably keep reading for curiosities sake but it seemed to be missing something.

I received this book for free in a giveaway by the publishers in return for my honest review. Honestly, I really enjoyed this book. It's complex, multifaceted and set against the vibrant backdrop of New Orleans. I found the characters to be beautifully flawed and well fleshed out, with twists and turns constantly changing the narrative of the book. I like a book that keeps me on my toes, and this one did just that.

Great Read
If you are into witches, spells and a good boogeyman...this is an excellent read. I’m ready to start book 2!

Atmospheric and lovely
It's a thorough glimse into a world of dreaming and magic, good and evil. I loved every moment of it- but I do think it performs better as an audiobook if only because the narrator plays the parts well.

Good book and I can't wait for the next one. Really kind of weird but I liked it all the same. The ending has a good setup for the next book. Some really creepy characters and some that I liked quite a bit. The plot has a couple real interesting twists.
I'm going to go back and read his Witching Savannah series.

This is one if the most sophisticated and beautifully crafted narrations that I have read (in a fantasy novel) in a long time. I am usually no fan of male authors tackling the inner workings of female characters (or other minorities), since it too often turns out to be a rigid mess of stereotypes and assumptions. But J.D. Horn develops his characters with an incredible level of empathy and care. No character is alike and even the most minor character in the background has a life of their own. The story can be convoluted at time and the pace can vary dramatically, but that made it a more fun and rewarding read in my opinion.
