3.5 stars. I love Sanderson but this wasn’t my favorite! I liked the characters but I don’t think I was super invested in the plot. I do think he did a great job at making the hallucinations feel like real people though. So overall, good and would recommend, especially if you want a light scifi

2 stars might be too generous — I really didn’t like any of these, but i finished them and didn’t throw up

#1 was not good. Like, the story was FINE and the premise was interesting to keep me engaged, but he just didn’t really DO anything with it. Yes. I understand that you can create “aspects” and talk to your hallucinations and that you use this to have access to more knowledge— yes, and? How did this happen? What gives you this power? Why do I care? That’s not even getting into the DICEY psychological drivel he spouts or the, just flat out, Islamophobia. Also, how did a camera that takes pictures of the past somehow just get relegated to the object of a fetch quest? This was like 1.5 stars

#2 maybe worse? Definitely more boring. Listen, BranSan, you like god, we all know. Can you not hamfist it into this, already pretty weak, story? That’s 2/2 novellas that are sophomoric rumination on faith/religion. We’re also even further removed from “sci-fi” this is just a worse version of a Dan Brown book. 1 star

#3 ok this one was at least interesting. Now we are getting a little meat to this backstory. I still don’t really care about this character, but I’m not actively bored. Writing is a step up. This one is 2 stars for me

I’m just absolutely gobsmacked by how poorly written these are! Like, I really enjoyed his other writing that I’ve read and this was so bland and tone deaf that I feel like I need to double check I wasn’t drunk while I read his other books…

I really hate to be this guy, but, um, maybe stick to fantasy man…
