Short but perfect.

John is dealing with the grief and PTSD of watching his sister and mother burn at the stake after being caught being healers. He then saves a girl who had the same fate.

John's POV of the beginning of The With Hunter and how all his smiles actually mean something. How he is very skilled at being a Healer. And just a little insight on the workings of this reformist family.

I loved this novella! It was so awesome being back in the Witch Hunter world and John is just so great. It was nice learning more about him and seeing parts of the first book from another angle. It makes me want to read The King Slayer even sooner!

This was a really great novella.

My one complaint about novellas is that they always feel too short and while I still wish that this could have been longer that more has to do with how much I was enjoying it rather than it feeling incomplete.

I really enjoyed reading from John's point of view and I actually felt like this novella really added a lot to him as a character.

Definitely recommend picking this up if you enjoyed The Witch Hunter.

I really liked reading from John's POV! I liked hearing about the healing side, the potions and all his medicine stuff is super interesting. It's really short but to be expected with a novella. I'm excited for the King slayer!

This was great. The writing was solid. The story was solid. I loved the imagery and how clearly I was able to visualize every single moment. This world was exciting to be in even for a short while. I wasn't blown away or anything but I love witch stories and I was entertained here so I am looking forward to reading The Witch Hunter more than I was before. I feel like I haven't read a story with a male POV in awhile so this was a refreshing change. I especially love that John takes his craft seriously, is dependable, and is quite comical at times. I can't wait to see what he brings to The Witch Hunter and I hope I like Elizabeth's POV just as much when I get to it!

I take back what I said about John being as interesting as dirt. He's far more interesting than Elizabeth ever was, and this novella is better than the actual The Witch Hunter novel. This makes me wish the actual novels were told at least in a dual perspective. It probably would make them better.

Part of my 2016 Reading Challenge - "Book you can read in a day"

Well, I read this one across the span of 8 hours. It was interesting in a way. Most of the time, I come to novellas or short story prequel like things after reading the initial story, so to read "The Healer" before reading "Witch Hunter" is quite something. I had no previous knowledge of this world that it is set in, why some of these characters are so important. But I now have a general idea of where the story for "Witch Hunter" is going to lead from.

Wasn't overly fantastic, but wasn't dull either.

Great writing - loved the first person POV from John Raleigh. . . He seems a very interesting character.
