Beautiful prose and memorable characters. Unfortunately, the racial epithets and dehumanizing throughout the book acted like speed bumps to keep me from becoming fully engrossed in the story.

I don't often quit books, but I couldn't take this one any longer. After the 50th or 60th use of the n-word, and the casual acceptance of domestic violence, I had to stop. That's in addition to the dense prose and Wolfe's obvious ignorance of Piagetian principles.
