Doing my series reread in honor of the last book's release. Man, rereading this book reminded me how much I love it.

I just couldn't get into the audiobook.  I've read the book many times before, but the audiobook couldn't keep my attention.

Love the book. will definitely continue with the series. Merit is a wisecrack. she is hilarious at times. As always with those kind of books, there is at least 1 guy in the picture. I am still not sure what to think of Ethan Sullivan. He certainly seems to have presence. We will see.

I am not normally into Vampire fiction, but the idea of the series intrigued me so I gave it a shot. I was not disappointed.

This novel had a good balance of paranormal mystery, vampire politics, interesting characters, and touched very lightly into paranormal romance - just enough to keep the vampire seduction vibe in view, but not too much to place it into erotica.

I enjoy the character, particularly because she is a strong character who doesn't actually want to be a vampire, which makes the dive into the secret world of Chicago Vampire House Politics all the more interesting.

I will be giving the other books in the series a try.

*Sighs* where to begin? I just can't get enough of Merit and Ethan! I love Merits Character, She's feisty and stubborn. I wasn't expecting Ethan to be blond though lol that kinda threw me but whatever. I'm intrigued by the series, it will most likely get better with each book!

Merit is a wonderful character. I enjoy that she has very realistic dichotomies in her personality. She is a constantly evolving character which is wonderful for the story line. The structure of the vampires in this novel is new to me and I think it creates a wonderful dynamic. Overall, I will definitely continue the series and I look forward to knowing what happens with Merit!

Within a few paragraphs I was hooked! An amazing author that has you wanting to keep turning the pages to figure out what is going to happen next and keeps you laughing all the way! I love this series and this first book got me hooked!

Super fun vampire not-really-a-mystery who blatant erotic-based powers? Thank you!

More of a set up for a series rather than an actual mystery, considering the plot only comes up every once in a while, and get solved really quickly at the end. It's more about Merit learning the ropes of being a vampire, finding her place in the house system. I'm alright with that, if you're looking for a super deep mind blowing new novel about what it means to become a vampire LMAO this is for fun people! (though there are a few winks at other, intellectual literature now and then. I do hope it leads to more)

The world is fun, the house system is a great aesthetic, and the main character is bad ass - and hot vampires! It's like watching a CW show without the 24 hour time commitment to a season

Awesome! I loved it! Merit was kickass, hilarious, and she didn't take shit from anyone. Mallory, her best friend, was all cool. She was a wonderful best friend. Now, Ethan or Morgan? Two vampy leaders after her. Fun, no? I like Ethan, but his assholeyness is annoying me, leading me to favor Morgan, Mr. Navarre, as of now. I can't wait for the next one to arrive at my library!

Wow, still so good. I love Merit! She's awesome, and Mallory is pretty cool, too. The sexual tension between her and Ethan is one of my favorite things about this series. I can't wait for it to get resolved (at some point...not sure which book it happens in properly, lol.) 5 stars!

Reread 9/14-25/21
This was a decent reread. It's pretty light and mostly serves as an introductory novel. I like Merit, Ethan is a douche (he improves in later books though), the world of the vampires and other supernaturals is interesting, and I liked Merit's grandfather. 3.5 stars. Recommended.
