This book almost made me cry. ALMOST!! This book started very slow but then I just fell in love with them. The only reason I am giving it this low of a score is that the book did not start out in a way I liked and it felt like there was something to be desired.

Thank you John Greene for writing what turned out to be one of my favorite books I’ve ever read. He somehow captures the tragic and knowing end of people suffering from cancer, but makes you hope anyway that things turn out for the best.

Hazel Grace is a young girl living with thyroid cancer and lives at home with her mom, who’s sole job seems to be hovering over her, and her dad, in a constant state of sadness over her condition.

Then, at her cancer support group she meets him. Augustus Waters, a handsome young man with witty banter and a unique outlook on the world.

The two of them quickly fall in love despite Hazel’s reservations. She sees herself as a grenade, and her inevitable “explosion” will negatively impact anyone who’s close to her.

Hazel and Augustus’ story is a heartwarming and heartbreaking tale of love and loss, and everyone needs to read this book at some point in their lives.
