2.5 for me. This took a while for me to get into and once I did, I did enjoy it for the most part but there's other books I've enjoyed more and given a 3 star and honestly, finding out it's a series has made me like it a little less too. I enjoyed the ending, it was complete and final. I have no urge to read more about them so I highly doubt I'll read the rest of the series.

Mori is a very interesting character, I'm not sure if I trust him or not but that's the whole point I suppose. I like the ambiguity around him and don't want that to disappear by reading the other books.

I enjoyed the little bits of magical surrealism and found the protagonist endearing. But there was something about it that just didn't do it for me. I would still recommend, it's an interesting read.

Grace sucks and the author shouldn't have made her only female character suck so much. But the rest is great. Justice for katsu though

I had a hard time really getting to know these characters. Maybe I just had a hard time focusing, but I felt like the story folded back over itself at some point and I missed the turn to follow it. I do want to try other books by Natasha Pulley, though, so maybe I'll like one of her other ones more than this.

This was very much not plot all vibes, until the plot came out in full force for the end. I loved the slow burn romance, very cute, but hated how Grace's character ended up, made no sense. Nothing more happened with her science interests.  Grace also has a terrible view of women in general, in fact the whole book does? Not a single 'good' woman in it. Very clever plot, but quite confusing and not completely explained.

4.5/5 - rounded up because I'm VERY fond of this book even though I prefer The Bedlam Stacks

I loved the characters and world but had a little trouble following the story. May try to pick it up again in the future.

Read the first 3? 4? chapters before I had to return it to the library. I was bored and didn't bother to renew it. The prose was too vibey to give me a good sense of what was actually happening. Also, why is this lady so obsessed with octopuses? My partner read The Half Life of Valery K and that had an octopus in it as well. Weird!!
