I've had respect for Bill Watterson for years, and this edition features his intelligently articulated commentary along with various strips; the reader gets an insight to his views on the craft, on politics, on the ecosystem, and on the family structure. I wanted a break from the dense academic journals and books I've been reading lately and found Calvin and Hobbes in a bookstore. It's a necessary reprieve.

I loved reading these as a kid. My older brother would get them I would take a look and really didn’t get what was so funny. But this is a daring reminder and it had the author’s explanation and that was great too! I used to call him Hobb-es. For some reason. So I found myself saying his name wrong...

Komik strip Calvin & Hobbes merupakan salah satu komik strip terkenal di dunia. Mengisahkan persahabatan bocah berumur 6 tahun dengan sesosok macan. Di buku ini, Bill Watterson membagikan kisahnya dalam membuat komik strip ini. Dia juga membagikan beberapa prinsipnya yang cukup keras, salah satunya tidak mau berkompromi dengan pasar untuk memberikan ijin membuat merchandise Calvin & Hobbes.
Bill Watterson juga menyertakan komik strip buatannya, lengkap dengan catatan kecil mengenai tema dibuatnya komik strip tersebut. Buku ini juga dijadikan Bill Watterson sebagai dokumentasi karya-karyanya. Bahasanya cukup ringan dan pembaca akan dihibur oleh kumpulan komik strip Calvin & Hobbes. Paling utama, kita bisa tahu bahwa proses menerbitkan sebuah komik strip tidak mudah. Banyak yang harus dipertimbangkan sebelum akhirnya komik strip tersebut bisa terbit.

I am a huge fan of Calvin and Hobbes. This book is great especially because of the commentary by Bill Watterson. It is a must have for every C & H fan.
