Wowza. This book. The symbolism in this Book, and the reality of this book are on another level. Ellison really puts you in the narrators shoes. He really makes you feel the confusion of the narrator. And then the realization at the end of the whole scheme coming together. And it makes you just as angry as Ellison’s Invisible Man. Another 5/5 read for me. From my #unreadshelf also another Excellent piece of literature from an author of color #blackhistorymonthreads I have been on Fire this February. 2018 is a year that I’m really challenging myself reading wise and I’m incredibly proud! Highly recommend this on #audiobook the narrator is SOOO FREAKING AMAZING it’s like listening to an actor dictate a masterclass monologue. Start to finish.

Initially gave it one star because of how virulently misogynistic it was. However it is undeniably an important piece of literature, even if I can’t stand it. So I’m now giving it two stars

I for sure wish I would have read this in the context of a classroom discussion. I wasn't crazy about the writing style (at certain points it felt more like theory than art or fiction) but it was thought-provoking to say the least.
