Such a shame, I try, but it felt off flat on my face. Meaningless and strange to me.

picked up this book thinking it would be a little light poetry reading moment.
did not expect it to seep under my skin and rip my heart out.
the way he talks about the passage of time and this constant push and pull of relationships. it’s real and raw and had me trying (and failing miserably) to hold back my tears.

Phil Kaye does a magnificent job of deconstructing his identity and carefully crafting his story in a way that is empowering and beautiful.

A poetry book that would greatly benefit from you having heard Phil Kaye read his work out loud. I can imagine that a lot gets lost without the delivery - but that's the nature of slam poetry written down sometimes.
I had heard Phil read some of these before - and they stuck with me. He has a fantastic way of capturing feelings that it is difficult to put words on. A one day read kind of book.
