The MC is a bit annoying with her self-depreciating, often missing obvious information dialogue (especially when you consider that she’s supposed to be a genius in the field of science). The twists and turns feel a bit like many other dystopian/virus stories but there were a few that I didn’t predict. Typical love triangle/teenage dystopian drama. There are also some wiring issues where something doesn’t make sense (timing not lining up it a character facing one way and then doing something they had to turn around to do without any clue they had turned)… small issues but took me out of the story for a minute. However, some of the other characters are pretty likable and the plot was fast enough that I finished it quickly and it held my interest. I received it for free during a stuff your kindle ya promotion which may cause me to be lenient on quality issues. Story was good if you can look past a few flaws.

As an adult, I was like, "huh, probably a teen book." I was mostly right, but in a good way! I felt like I was able to become a late-teen/young adult again with this book! Bridget E. Baker writes very well, and even if I felt a little young reading it, I felt the language of the writing was adult (well, as adult as you can be in a POV of a 16 year old!). I wanted to continue reading, and it was hard to put down with all the fun twists and turns of figuring out this world.
Pros:
- Fun to read, felt like a teen again, was impressed by the writing, twists and turns
Cons:
- A bit silly at times, some of the twists I felt like "god, another one?!", the characters felt a bit cliche

This book really took me by surprise. I started the first chapter and just couldn’t put it down!
Marked is a YA dystopian with a walking dead/left behind series vibe to it. There’s a realistic heroine, which I enjoyed, romantic tension, and also tension between family. I loved that there were so many adults involved in this story, that’s often missing in YA books.
Overall it was a very entertaining read and I enjoyed the to-the-point first person narrative. The stakes that exist in the world were high enough that I had to finish this and see where it went.
I would absolutely recommend to any teens who like end-of-the-world and dystopian stories!

DNF at 45%. I just can't finish this book because I'm so incredibly bored. The storytelling is so slow, plain, and matter-of-fact. It's as though every moment and thought in this girl's life is just as important as the next. There's an incredibly long backstory explanation given by her family members that should have been done a different way. Throughout it all, I kept asking myself, "Why do I care about any of this? The book hasn't made any of the characters interesting enough to want to find out what happens to them. And it doesn't help that the audiobook narrator reads it like she's a pastor on a pulpit.
