This lacked a lot of authenticity that I like to find within the LGBTQ books I read. The ending was also a let down. Just felt extremely cliche and lacking in depth, as if someone looked up what being gender-fluid meant and decided to based a character off of it.

Also a complete lack of pronoun usage or any acknowledgment of the importance of pronouns to the trans (and human) experience. I had to come back and make my review even lower, the more I thought about it.

It's my first ever read of the year. And I should pat myself for choosing a book that isn't bad, so that might represent my whole reading year. I'm glad that this was my first read of the year. I don't have any bad things to say, so you might wonder why I didn't give the full 5 stars. There's no such reason. I like this book. It's informative and makes me feel valid. It just didn't hit the deepest part of my heart. Maybe because I expected a little bit more in the end. I love the way they accept themselves. I didn't feel it to the core. But I would happily recommend it to others.

This book brought a lot of light to topics that aren’t talked about enough and it explains gender binary well as a non-binary person. The book was shocking towards the end and ended on a really good note.

Wow. What a important story. It is very hard to read at times, but there are a lot of light moments as well. I really loved Riley as our character. They were just very relatable in many ways like being awkward. I thought the friendships and the family relationships were so important. I learned a lot and think other people will as well. Definitely look up trigger warnings.

I didn’t realize when I began this book that it would be another trans trauma story which was a very unwelcome surprise. Cis authors writing stories about trans people with a cis audience in mind do this all the time, I need to start reading spoilers ahead of time so I can avoid these books. It sends a message that trans people are deserving of empathy due to the discrimination we face, not because we are intrinsically worthy of respect and dignity. If I want to read about assaults and hate crimes against trans people, I’ll read the news

so, as a genderfluid person, this book very quickly became a comfort book to me, even before I realized I was genderfluid. the romantic relationship is adorable, but I like how it also focuses a lot on Riley, their struggles, their internalized issues, and their friendships. It's a book that I can and have read multiple times just because it makes me feel safe. despite this book having very heavy topics, it's strangely comforting.
