This book had good take aways but they were spread throughout a story which I did not care for. I would have rather there been no fictional story line and more self help.

I'll admit I didn't finish this.

As the book went on and on with the dangers of technological distractions taking us away from our focus, I found it a bit ironical that the source of this information is also a source of meaningless technological noise distracting.

I don't know. Maybe I've just outgrown the self-help genre.

I suppose it's like when you stopped eating sweet stuff and drink lemon every day, then, even an (allegedly) healthy banana becomes too sweet for the mouth, to the point it's a bit sickening. That's how I felt about this book.

Initially, I liked the book. Sharma presented self-help advice convoluted into a fictional story where a desperate entrepreneur attends a self-help seminar. After the seminar, she and an artist, who was sitting next to her, was approached by a mysterious homeless guy who said genuinely inspiring things. Turns out that the hobo was one of the wealthiest men in the world, and his misleading appearance was a result of his practice of stoicism. They were invited to his little world in paradise and was escorted in private jets, 50 shades of Grey style.

After they arrived at paradise they attended lectures every day at 5 AM. That's when the book got dull, the author got lazy and I felt like the characters were not even close to being believable. And I witnessed really bad dialogue. The characters were totally unreal, robot-like, repeating what the billionaire said, as if in a bad TV commercial.

"Wow, what you just said totally changed COMPLETELY how I think about... EVERYTHING."
"Wow, you're so smart. I guess the world really is perceived differently by everyone. Wow. Such insight. Much impress."

Matters did not become better when while the entrepreneur received a death thread on SMS, and instead of calling the police, the billionaire summoned his bodyguards hiding in the bushes to investigate the issue for her, to then carry on his lecture on the benefits of waking up at 5 AM.

And things became weird when the two TV commercial actors suddenly fell in love. Out of nowhere.

Perhaps they were sucking up to the gullible billionaire and pretending to be overly enthusiastic about his self-help advice in a desperate attempt to court him and get the sweet taste of his luxurious lifestyle, but I could not give this benefit of the doubt to the author.

I don't really mind using fictional dialogue to make a point, and I tolerate Ayn Rand, but for it to work, you have to believe the characters, the events, the story.

It's clear the author dislikes fiction, and he sees it as a tool so he can display an extreme example of a billionaire with shredded abs in order to generate some Ethos because the author is lacking real results himself.

Anyway, I hit a point where the author was just repeating himself and I felt that he didn't seem to able to give many other reasons for waking up at 5 AM other than it is a time you're undisturbed, and it might serve as a cornerstone habit. I see the value of waking up early, but I didn't enjoy the book.

The concepts if applied especially to 20/20/20 morning routine allow you to conquer your day whilst ensuring that your health set (body), Mindset and soul set. It is a book worth reading.

Some great concepts and words of wisdom to consider. The narrative format felt very forced and made it less interesting, despite it's opposite intentions. The level of privilege required to institute ALL of the practices is shocking, but I think the important point was to use the time you have in the best and most effective way possible by pushing yourself one step at a time.
