I love that this book was so scary in the sense that you are rooting for someone who ultimately isn't someone you should root for.
I personally wanted Xifeng to 'win' in the sense that she becomes a successful court member and recovers from the trauma she experienced, and almost every choice she made, while questionable, made sense for someone in her situation, until they compounded upon themselves and you realize that the path that she chose was a less than admirable one.
