I would just like to say that I read this as a stand alone and will probably be reading the rest of the series after this. Anyways, this book was kinda confusing and there are some plot holes. Like for example, how did Stacey get those dreams even if (spoiler) she or Jacob were going to die?  Idk if she was misinterpreting the dreams but she still got that feeling when she first met Clara. Anyways, most of the characters were very bland. Amber and PJ had a little flare but they were just kinda unlikeable. Drea, Chad, and Stacey were pretty much boring but who knows in other books. Most of the time it felt repetitive because - Clara explained someone fucked with her things, Stacey gets worried and has nightmares. And with Jacob - Jacob isn't honest and is being secretive, they make up in a couple chapters by doing a spell. Jacob I probably didn't find him as boring because we didn't get to see him that much. And honestly, I don't know how the author expected for us to root for Stacey to save Clara when she was just a bitch and (spoiler) it was obvious that she would be the main villain in the end. Also, it seemed like they were setting up Casey to be kinda like a main part from Clara's like involvement or something. Just lost potential as most of the side characters were as boring as a board. I don't know how this book compares to the others in the series but it was really disappointing.  Can't deny, this book had better writing but the plot couldn't save it. The epilogue was probably the best part because we got to see what Jacob was seeing and thinking about.

I’ll always love this book and series as I remember reading it multiple times as a teen, but I have to lower the rating because I despise the miscommunication trope. I just want Jacob (or, really, all men) to be better better at communicating what’s happening in their lives to those important to them.

Stacey has finished her high school days at Hillcrest Boarding school, and now it's summertime. She, her new boyfriend Jacob, and some friends, Chad, PJ, Amber, and Drea, are going to stay at a cottage on the beach for the summer. Before too long, Stacey starts having nightmares yet again. This time, however, they aren't about one of her friends; they're about another girl, Clara, staying at a different beachside cottage. This felt like the weakest book in the story, and felt like more of a stand-alone story with big consequences rather than the third book in a quartet.

I was determined to give this 2 stars. Half way through I started skimming because I was SO bored and wanted it to be done. I liked the first two well enough, but sometimes sequels of sequels aren't the best.
The only thing that redeemed the story was the end, which is why it's getting a 3 from me.
Unfortunately now, I have to either figure out what happens in the next book on Google, or actually read it.

My favorite from the series. mystery, intrigue, suspense and creepiness. all thats to be expected from the great Stolarz. Only this time the ending with catch you even more by surprise than the first too...and fair warning you might get mad.

What the hell just happened here?

I honestly don't even know how I feel about this book. Literally every character in this book pissed me off at one point. Actually, the only one who I could stand at the end was Jacob. Everything about this plot had me frustrated. How - after 2 years of this - Stacey's friends still question her nightmares. It's like, wake the fuck up! She saved your asses before, have some god damn faith!

And Stacey, come on! Grow a god damn backbone and speak up. For a main character, there's just not enough presence - nothing that comes from her. I find her extremely weak. But weirdly, I don't blame the character, I blame the writer. Stolarz, to me, seems like she's writing what she thinks teenagers/young adults are like and then taking it twelve steps farther and writing that down. Nothing about these friendships is believable. Nothing about their day-to-day lives are believable. And if you want me to care about your characters, don't make them so god damn stupid and annoying. Case in point: Clara.

Clara has to be the worst written character ever in a book. This is a combination of character and writing. If we were supposed to care that she was in danger - well, epic fail there. I cringed every time she came around.

I will say that the epilogue was my favorite part. The fact that it was an entire chapter written from journals, transcripts, and news articles was interesting and actually good. Too bad the entire book wasn't written like this.

I will go onto the next one and I will hold on to the bright light that is Jacob.
