3.5 stars. I wish you could give half stars (hint, hint).
I enjoyed the book for 4 stars, but I felt the quality was 3. This was mainly due to the dialogue-which was jarring. It was far too modern sounding, much more so than the previous book. Also, the prose was stiffer. The two main plot twists were expected but well managed.
That being said, I love Digger/Celyn. As with other reviewers, I laud the strong heroine who doesn't spend her time mooning about gender equality, or how skirts are unfortunate symbols of female bondage, or how much prettier other women are, or men's hair, or any of the sundry other things that fill "strong" female character's heads these days. Mrs. Bunce's characters are often a breath of fresh air.
All in all, a good light read.

This is the follow up title to [b:Starcrossed|7877549|Starcrossed (Thief Errant, #1)|Elizabeth C. Bunce|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1284198481s/7877549.jpg|11068967], and it finds Digger back in her hometown with barely a moment to herself before she is called on to help her friend Lord Durrel Decath, he's accused of murdering his much older wife, and Digger is determined to prove his innocence. There are many complications in store as she navigates the dangerous waters of being magical while trying to figure out who she can trust. Meanwhile the war draws closer. . .

Like the previous novel there are a lot of characters and terminology. Intricately plotted and written it's worth the read, the twist at the end making the next book highly anticipated.

Quite good. I liked the leads, Digger and Durrel, a great deal and it was just a fun story overall. It's discouraging to think we might never receive the third installment, though.

Before I go any further THE CLIFFHANGER ENDING. It's so cruel, and I had heard that it would be but that didn't stop me from reading it, however if you can't handle cliffhangers with little hope of ever finding out what happens (there is at this time no plan for a 3rd book to be in publication), then I would not recommend reading this book.

However, if you are ok with an intense cliffhanger, and like awesome female characters, fantasy, and mysteries, then read on!

In this sequel to Star Crossed, we are re-introduced to Lord Durrel Decath who has been (Digger is told), wrongly arrested for the murder of his wife.

The evidence is against him, and once again, Digger is called upon to unravel the truths and lies that are surrounding this mysterious murder. At times even she doubts Durrel's innocence.

Over all, I did not like this book as much as I liked the first book in the series, but this one still captured my attention. Digger's character is very loveable and Bunce is an excellent writer.

The Thief Errant books remind me of a little bit of a cross between Tamora Pierce's Daugher of the Lionness and Beka Cooper books. Here we have a main character who is a thief with a special talent for snooping out magic, who is using her stealth-skills for good.

Really wish I had known that they cancelled this trilogy before I started reading this!

Not as engaging as the first one. Didn't have the grand scale that the other did. The romance felt somewhat forced.

This was such an incredible novel! I've put off finishing it because I really didn't want it to end. I understand there is some question as to if/when the third book is to be released and I do hope the author decides to continue with it (don't leave it like that!). I absolutely love the settings, the characters, and the magic through it all.
While I missed some of the characters from StarCrossed, I loved seeing what everyone else was getting up to on the city side of things. I just really enjoyed this series and I do hope to read the conclusion one day!
