This is a book that is gonna stay with me. I gotta say it may be one of my favorites Hendrix has written. The metaphors to what our consumerism has done to art and imagination is absolutely brilliant. Did they really sell their souls to a devil or the devil the lust for easy money? When we sell our souls - what does it mean? Have we lost the best parts of ourselves for a  meaningless buy out: I’m really gonna be thinking of this one. Add in the commentary on the violence towards women- even in the metal community - and it is even better. The circular writing from the first lines to the last lines had me close to tears. Women are so amazing and I’m shocked Grady isn’t in one. He takes care of his girls and i will miss Kris and Melissa.

Not my normal pick for a book but I had a good time.

This was delightfully weird! I love a good hero’s quest story structure, especially if our protagonist is a badass woman. I enjoyed the plot, though it got a little gross and gory at times. It felt right for the story though, like the novelation of a metal album. Actually all the chapter titles are album titles, which took me way too long to recognize! Hendrix’s style reminded me of a gritty film noir, focusing on what some might call the dregs of society, but in a way that highlights their wonderful humanity. Though many of these characters dream of fame and glory, most are extremely regular folks just trying to survive in less than ideal conditions. The ending felt right and tied up everything in a fun, bombastic way. I would totally read a sequel featuring the character we left off on! I think I’ll check out this author’s other works.
