Horrifying content but form is brilliant. When looking at the writing only this is a masterpiece. But the content makes it impossible for me to rate this higher.

I was prepared, but still I couldn't finish it... The style was quite difficult (yet very wel written), and the topic was more than difficult... I tried, but I felt awful. I was intrigued by the idea of being inside the head of a psychopath, which still was true.

An incredibly beautifully written book about a positively atrocious man. Lolita is a horror story from the perspective of the monster. At every page Humbert Humbert reveals himself to be a pathetic, vile, sniveling little loser. Through his memoir and travels through the USAmerican landscape, Nabokov presents a scathing indictment of our cultural obsession with (and resentment of) youth and the failure of a puritanical society to truly protect children from exploitation.

How dare he write such a fucked book in the most beautiful prose and it not even be his first language.
