My thought that NYRBs are worth reading even if it’s not your thing, continues. I’m not big on these sort of travel/adventure stories, but I’m glad I read this. Orm and his adventures were really interesting to read about. I loved meeting all the different people he met. So, while not my thing, still worth reading.

i made it as far as chapter 5 in Part. III, In the Border Country, and just wasn’t in the mood to read any more about all the people Orm suddenly felt the need to coerce into taking part in the christian baptism.

maybe i’ll revisit the book eventually but i’m good for now.

A saga for the modern age, it's an amazing journey of the Viking Age northmen through pre-Roconquista Spain, early Christian spread to the remaining Norse/Celtic lands, the hinterlands of far Eastern Europe, and the remnants of Byzantium Rome to the South. Just an amazing piece of fiction is most of what I have to say, really absorbs you into the setting and period, I would read the saga of Orm's whole line if I could.

A very good book, with plently of bloody battles. The ending was good, but it was a little weak. overall very good book, considering it is a historical fiction book I had to read for school
