3.75? I found the story compelling, but it was a little too internet culture/man writing a woman for me to fully enjoy it. The look into fame and motivations was interesting, for sure. But I wanted more detail around the central mystery itself! That's my personal preference for genre stuff, so I don't really hold it against the author. The audiobook narrator was... Fine.

i mostly liked this book. i was a bit taken out of the story at times because often the characters talk exactly like hank green, which is not necessarily bad but hank green is not a 23 year old girl.

At first I was disappointed that this book was more of a commentary on our times of social media madness and political division, I was hoping for much more sci-fi. But once I got into it, damn it’s so good and smart and funny and insightful and brutal and unexpected. I will happily skip right on the the next one.

This was an interesting reading experience. I was interested in the story, but I didn’t love it. The characters were intriguing and I liked April for the most part she’s unlikable(that’s the point), but it was frustrating to read at times. This was funny and interesting and I learned a lot about some random topics which I enjoyed. I did also like the commentary about fame as well as like hate groups and humanity. I think I will continue on with the series because the ending was kind of shocking and I did enjoy the last 100 pages a lot. I also like how this was told and how the narrator would speak to us at times.

I read this in one day, it was such a captivating store I couldn’t stop, I had to know what happened next. This is my first Hank Green book I’ve read and I will have to read more. This story is about a woman who comes across a large sculpture in New York, thinks it is great and ends up going viral and starting a movement. Highly recommend!!!

Damn there were some hard-hitting truths cooked into the story in this one. I saw a negative review of this book that criticized that the “alien book” wasn’t about aliens, and I have to wonder how someone can so entirely lack reading comprehension. As most alien books are, at their core, this book was about humans, in all their wonderful fucked up glory. It was about social media and how, like humans, there are two sides to that coin. It’s about fame and what it makes people do. And it’s about April, who is seriously seriously flawed. Just like everyone else.
