conflicted on this. not the greatest short story ever, but has some pretty sentences. also has some sexist undertones.
we know dexter‘s inner conflict but nothing about his personality, except for him being so spineless it’s a wonder he even walks; judy is the weird mixture of manic pixie dream girl and femme fatale that all Fitzgerald‘s other female protagonists seem to be.
i will probably update this review later.

The loss of innocence as told by Fitzgerald. Nothing extraordinary or that much of a plot here. But then this is a Fitzgerald book, which you read for his unique themes, characters and writing style, which as always are on point.

Perhaps... she had come, in self-defense, to nourish herself wholly from within.
Honestly, couldn't have cared about Dexter less. At least with Gatsby I got the feeling that he loved Daisy. Dexter... He can rot. I want to protect Judy and Judy only.
+ i said Hemingway would be a fuckboy, and i have the feeling that Fitzgerald would be the icon of the Nice Guys.
