I couldn't get into it and wasn't enjoying the character work.

I loved this book. I would give it closer to 4.5/4.8 ONLY because there was a disconnect between the first half of the book and the second half. And the map of the world didn’t match the description for me. But i loved the story and the connections to real life African tribes and mythology. Beautiful story about self growth I highly recommend and look forward to the next book.

I’m just so bored reading this book. It’s detailing all of these little things in Lileala’s daily life but I feel like this is just to build the world and word count. I wanted more plot and character development, but both fell flat for me. It just didn’t have substance and I don’t want to wait around for it. Plus, we switch perspectives unexpectedly and I’m not interested in that perspective either.

I loved the idea of the world, though. I just wish it had more than just an interesting/aesthetic world.

What a strange and beautiful book. It's very hard to describe without sounding insane though. It's about the descendants from Africa in a far futuristic paradise world. It was cool to see a utopian society without some hidden, sinister plan in motion.

The writing felt incredibly static. The world building is all over the place and it makes it hard to actually picture what’s happening. The dialogue was choppy and created no depth for the story or characters. I so wanted to enjoy this book but I could not get past the writing.
