A fun little holiday romance book. Based around Christmas, one of the characters - Holly, loves Christmas while the other - Noel, hates Christmas.
Holly loves everything about Christmas and her current job is absolutely perfect for her, an ice marshall at Somerset Hall. Here she bumps into Noel on the ice, trying to keep his godson happy. They get talking and both of them feel the attraction, but how can two people so different get on so well?
A fantastic little novella, filled with the magic of Christmas time.

Noel Summerford hates winter, especially Christmas. If it were up to him, he would be relaxing on the beach in some sunny and warm summer paradise instead of in the cold weather at the skating rink with his godson Jasper. Holly Winterlake, a former competitive skater loves Christmas and hates summer. Christmas is her favourite time of year and she enjoys the crowds of people, the decorations and lights and spending time with her colourful family. Then one day, Noel and Holly meet by chance at the skating rink at Somerset House, and although they do not hit it off right away, there is subtle romantic tension between them. Is it possible though, for two such opposite people to put aside their differences and allow their feelings to blossom?

‘Skating at Somerset House’ is the first story in Nikki Moore’s ‘#Love London’ series. It was a light, fun read, easily completed in one sitting. The characters were engaging and quite well developed for a short story. There was so much back story in fact, that I wanted to read more about these two characters and can easily imagine Holly and Noel’s story developed into a full book version. I would recommend this to anyone in the mood for a short sweet romance with a festive feel and look forward to reading the other titles in this series.

I give this book 3.5/5 stars.

Short stories are hard. This is a great example of a story that would have benefited from more set up. Everything just felt too rushed and not at all realistic. Also
Spoiler if she was a former professional figure skater? Pretty sure she would NOT be working as an ice marshall. Investors would love her company idea.

So cute! Everyone knows English chick lit is my most favorite form of chick lit. I had just finished The Hyacinth Girls, which was pretty gut wrenching, so I wanted something light.

This short story was the perfect palate cleanser! It was like smelling coffee beans after sniffing too many Gold Canyon candles.

It was a simple story of a girl who loves Christmas meeting a guy who hates Christmas, and how they come together.

You could read it in one night easily, and go to bed with a happy heart.

Thanks to NetGalley and Harper Collins for allowing me to read and review this ARC!

Skating at Somerset House - Nikki Moore

There’s nothing Holly Winterlake loves more than Christmas and skating, so working as an Ice Marshall at London's Somerset House is a dream come true.

Noel Summerford hates the festive season and is a disaster on the ice, so taking his godson to Somerset House is his idea of the nightmare before Christmas!

For such a short book there is a huge festive feel to this book, it is such a fun-filled romance. I liked how in the first chapter, Nikki introduces the reader to Noel and explains how Christmas is the worst time of the year for him; immediately followed by introducing us to Holly who is the polar opposite.

Even with the short length of the book, Nikki has managed to thoroughly introduce the characters and the setting beautifully. One of the things I really enjoyed about this book is that even the characters names are festive. I would highly recommend this short novella to any fan of a Christmas romance.

Synopsis

They say that opposites attract but with Holly and Noel it would almost seem their differences are too intense for them to ever find a common ground. Holly is vivacious, a lover of Christmas and tries to find the good in every situation. Whereas Noel is a bit of a Christmas curmudgeon; he scowls, hates anything to do with the festive period and would rather it be summer.

However, they both come with emotional baggage and slowly we see a friendship blossom between the two. Can they put their differences aside to take advantage of their mutual feelings?

Review

I really enjoyed this short story. It is the first in the #LoveLondon series and I genuinely cannot wait to read the rest. What I loved most about it is that it did not feel like a short story. I didn’t feel robbed or let down. I was given what I wanted. The love story blossomed nicely with the classic will-they-won’t-they drama; the misunderstandings and the soft gentle changes made by both Holly and Noel; both of them giving just a little bit more of themselves with each page and bending their views and opinions to allow themselves to experience something great.

This was a warm hearted winter tale that had me engaged from the very beginning. Part of me hopes that the story of Holly and Noel will continue in a fully fledged novel, however, if it doesn’t (boo hiss) I will be more than ok with this being the only story about them because it gave me everything (and more) that I need in a good winter warmer.

Well done, Nikki Moore.

This review was originally posted on Star Crossed Reviews I received this book for free from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Thank you to HarperImpulse for approving me on Netgalley to review this book. This is the first in a new series by Nikki.

We begin with Noel and his complaining about Christmas. He hates it. To him it is the worst time of the year. However he promises he will take his godson Jay ice skating at Somerset House.

Holly on the other hand loves Christmas and winter. She can't think of anything better than being an Ice Marshall at Somerset House. She looks forward to going to work everyday.

Of course things do not go well when these two meet.

I really enjoyed seeing these two characters develop, even after such a short time as two days. The characters back stories are well thought out and explained in just enough detail.

In the past I have not always been a fan of short stories but I've found that if there is enough details that actually I'm quite enjoying them.

This is a romantic, christmassy short story that will have you begging for the next book, just like me.
