4.5/5 stars.

this manga series is everything and idk how people could say that the art is underwhelming or that the world is underdeveloped, because it was dealt with so much effort and care and it shows. the little info cards between chapters of how things like the 3D manoeuvring gear works, the purpose of the walls, the explanations behind how their society works and how it all ties into the plot is just mastery. hajime isayama and whoever else worked with him behind the scenes did a great job of developing this world, its characters, and the plot.

This was a tiny bit better than volume 3 but I am losing my patience as to when will the series catch up to where the anime left which I hope is pretty soon!

In this volume, we actually go back in time as a flashback/dream of how Eren and the gang became soldiers for the war on Titans. After what happens in the end of the 3rd volume, Eren pretty much blacked out after pushing his limits as a Titan. I love how we went back in time to understand the process of becoming a soldier and it makes the plot run smoother now that we know who is who and how tough it is to become a soldier.

It's interesting revisiting these characters and this volume cleared up a lot of misunderstandings that happen in the anime and brings up clues that I have never thought of before especially with a particular someone who will become a major plot twist in this series!

This was another slower volume...a lot more back story in this one. But I have to say that I find this "world" absolutely fascinating and am looking forward to the story in the "present" time continuing.

The hardest part about being broke is getting into manga while being broke because I just want to buy and read this ENTIRE series RIGHT NOW.
