I was looking for a romance - paranormal, fantasy, something unusual, different - I wanted something that had unique characters with sensual connection and an adventuresome race to love. [b:Marked|7635629|Marked (Eternal Guardians, #1)|Elisabeth Naughton|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1331919202s/7635629.jpg|9118315] was exactly what I was looking for! I loved it, I couldn't stop reading, I read it in two nights, staying up well beyond my bed time. I immediately had to go and buy the second one to continue immersing myself in Elisabeth's world. This was a fresh, refreshing and original world with a mix of myth, heroes, and of course complications in love. I loved the world Elisabeth built for the Guardians and this idea of traveling to the real world and back, loved that the Guardians are descended from the great heroes, and loved the main character Casey. I liked that she was hardworking and thoughtful, that she didn't have it all together, she had her own problems, and was looking for how she fit into the world. Then she stumbles into this mysterious stranger and all kinds of chaos ensues! I found this title when browsing on my Nook under the Paranormal Romance genre. It was fantastic!

Beneath the flaws, there's actually a good story. Granted the whole 'bookstore owner-waitress at a strip club' double cliche and the over the top description of Theron made my eyes roll. I couldn't help picture a giant from the description, and even more confusing is how Casey was able to haul him over her shoulder and carry him into her place and onto her bed. Hmmmm.

(scratching my head)

I basically cringed through the first three chapters and kept asking myself, "Why?". The only reason I kept plugging away at the story was, because of a Reading Challenge. However, what had started out as an obligation to keep reading the "dribble" eventually turned into, "Wow! This is actually getting pretty good." Not to mention that right now you can get the ebook for FREE on your Nook.

What makes and SAVES this book is the Greek Mythology. Sadly, the world building though is rather lacking for the first four or so chapters. So you'll have to hang in there for a short while, but thank the gods the chapters are really small, so you won't have to wait long.

In a nutshell, the descendants of the demigods of Greek Mythology make up a race of beings called the Argoleans who live in a realm/world referred to as Argolea. The Olympians (you know Zeus, Hera, Poseidon, etc.) created Argolea for their half human children and their descendants. Among the Argoleans is an elite warrior class referred to as the Eternal Guardians and/or Argonauts tasked with the responsibility of protecting the gates between their world and the human world from daemon attacks. Some several thousand years ago an Argonaut turned evil named Atalanta made an agreement with the god Hades for immortality, thus setting into motion a prophecy about two halves who upon joining would undo the immortality granted to her.

Casey, our heroine - yes the same bookstore-owner/strip club waitress (rolling my eyes) unwittingly finds herself a player in this prophecy, and soon is on a race against time for her life and the life of mankind, Argoleans and Misos (a half Argolean; half human race) alike. Who would've known from chapter one, right?

I really enjoyed this story. The twists on greek mythology really worked, and it made this really original. I will definitely be reading the rest in this series, and keeping up with this author.

The Eternal Guardians are an elite group of Argonauts that guards the immortal realm from attacks from the Underworld.

Theron is the leader of the Argonauts. He has been sent on a mission to find and destroy the marked one. Theron’s people relay on Theron completing his mission.

Casey knew from the first moment she laid eyes on Theron that he was different. She fells a connection with him. Theron and Casey get closer, which makes things harder when Theron learns that Casey is the one he is after. Now, Theron must make a choice…save his people or protect Casey.

Marked is the first book I have read by this author. It is an Eternal Guardians novel. I liked the premise of the book. The first thing that caught my attention was the bright book cover and then the book summary. Well I can tell you that after reading this book that I still like the book cover but that is about all the really like about this book. There was no connection for me with the characters or the story. There was no memorable moment or moments for me. I kind of just went through the motions of reading this book. Plus, I thought that the story jumped around too much, leaving some unanswered questions. Overall, I was not very impressed with this book.
