penelopereads's review against another edition
reflective
slow-paced
Such a clever writer. Stories don’t seem to connect but they flow. Everything comes back to the idea of aftermath. Beautiful, poetic, descriptive, evocative writing. It felt sad but not unbearably. Enjoyed exploring grief and loss and how different experiences still bring about similar feelings. I felt understood.
Only criticism is that Cusk really can’t escape her well-to-do white ladyness in this one and at one point it didn’t come across well. Not letting that detract from the overall experience. It was a really lovely read.
