Week 49 Book 80
Camino Island by John Grisham
Rating: 2/5

This is a sequel to Camino Island. But not as engrossing. This revolves around a mysterious death of a writer during a tornado, and the scandal that follows. The conspiracy described is quite disturbing to think about. The plot is good but the novel is too long, tedious. You're not missing much if you skip this.

This was a pretty quick, easy read. I was entertained by it, but don't think I would go around recommending it.

I was intrigued by the premise of the story: a bunch of authors and book lovers trying to solve a murder mystery in the midst of a Florida hurricane. I think my main complaint was that the ending seemed a bit rushed. There was a good amount of build up and description in the beginning, and then all of a sudden everything fell into place at the end with far less description and intrigue by comparison.

I didn't realize until after I started reading that this book is a sequel to another (apparently better?) book, though it says this can be read as a standalone. Maybe I'll give the first book a try some day to see if it will help me understand a few other oddities...like the random open relationship between Bruce/Noelle.

I was so excited that Grisham wrote a sequel to Camino Island. I found myself disappointed in the story. I suppose JG wasn’t finished with the development of one of his characters from the previous novel, but he left behind the character I was most looking forward to reading about. I feel that a subplot (one of many) of nursing home abuse was glossed over, and could have been a more central storyline. Ultimately, there were too many storylines to follow to make the story enjoyable. As someone who generally enjoys reading John Grisham, I found this one to be a letdown.
