This would've been a four star but
(1) there was way too much time spent on the set up for the magical world
(2) does everything have to be a series?

The premise was great but the actual story felt clunky. It fell victim to, what is often, second book syndrome. It spent too much time setting up the future and not enough time on the single compelling story that pushes you to pick up the next book.

It's a very inspiring book. The main character, Been Kelly, has a lot of issues to work through. She struggles to find her place in the world and slow builds the confidence to be true to herself.
There is a little bit of violence but it's not graphic at all, mainly to just suggest that there is fighting (war).
