How on earth to rate this… parts of this book made me want to throw something across the room due to their seeming self-absorption, but they only got to me because they so closely mirrored my own compulsive inner thoughts. There are several lines in here that will stick with me forever and ever. It was a slow, pretentious start… but it was was exactly what I needed. 4.5 ⭐️

I should also clarify that this book is not so much about motherhood as NOT choosing motherhood, although Sheila would hate my exact language there.

"Overwhelmed" is my initial thought. There is so much I loved and I so much I hated, this really made me interrogate my own thoughts and emotions around motherhood. This book would be difficult to categorise and I enjoyed the different narrative styles. I want to flip some coins now.

This book asks a lot of interesting questions through its author, but I did find several profound reflections and moments of clarity clouded by many thoughts that didn’t feel like they added much value. But I suppose that’s part of what makes this book this book—it’s not meant to read as an answer for all, but rather document the journey she had to make her own. I may return to it again in the future as it’s central topic is one I consider often in my own life.

Frustrating coin flipping and fortune telling interspersed with these moments of sharp and center-probing clarity.
