I didn’t know anything about this book when I picked it up, and I was quite shocked when I saw the writing style but it ended up being such a good read!

The book is a very well written emotional story about two sisters discovering one another after the death of their father.
I truly enjoyed the story, but felt as though the pacing was incredibly slow. This gave the author the ability to deeply explain and develop each character, but may have left some readers losing interest in the characters’ lengthy internal monologues. It is a matter of personal taste, and the book overall was great.

This was a 6 star book, if we were giving more than 5 stars. The only other book to earn that accolade so far this year? Elizabeth Acevedo's With the Fire on High. I listened to this one via audiobook and the experience was just incredible. The book is written in verse, which, while interesting to read on the page, begs to be read aloud. I have the hardcover of this and originally started to read it, but something just kept me wanting to read it aloud and I knew I'd do it no justice, so I checked out the audiobook from the library. The author does the most fantastic job of embodying these two teenagers, who are going through the same grief in their own ways while also learning to deal with their father's duplicity - finally finding out about his other family and piecing together how they feel about that and each other. I listened in two chunks and by the time I was done, I was tearing up. All. The. Damn. Feels.
