This book is sad and depressing. Which you get from the synopsis but the synopsis also makes it seem like the character gets out of the depressive state she’s in with help from the dog. But she doesn’t. There’s no plot. These no character development. If you’re a pet owner don’t read it because there’s discussion AT LENGTH about animals dying, having to be put to sleep etc. no thank you.

I almost didn't finish this book.  Just very whiny.  Frustrating to read.

made me reflect on what writing truly means to me. more than a way to understand i hope writing allows me to grieve, to remember.

Not a classic dog book. More about grieving a flawed individual, and about writing itself. If you’re looking for “Marley and Me”, this isn’t it. But what it is is strange and wonderful.

Amy Hempel-esque autofiction/metafiction that cut straight to the bone.
