This book was definitely not what I was expecting. I mean I was expecting her to see ghosts but
Spoiler I was definitely not expecting Yara to end up being a ghost. I really enjoyed Yara's character but I just felt like it got a little redundant in the middle. And I mean that with everything there were a few things that happened after she died that seemed pretty repetitive. The few times where she started to change things and then the multiple fights with Thomas. I kind of got the point after the first two. I did really enjoy the development with her and Brent but I just got to the point that I wanted it to just happen already.
Overall I did enjoy this book and I will definitely be reading the sequel.

Loved this book! I was drawn in with the suspense and the characters!!

Reason for the 4 star: This book was kind of confusing and needed more characterization. :)

Absolutely not.

 No.

This whole book is just….. a big no from me. The writing, the characters, I can’t do it anymore.

This was on my DNF shelf but decided to give it another try. I quickly remembered why I had previously given up on it, but this time I stuck to my guns and finished it. I wouldn't say this was a bad book. It was just, well, really slow. I mean... really, really slow. The book was thick but the plot was pretty straightforward. I found myself skimming through pages of information that I really didn't feel invested in. Not to mention, if the MC had an ounce of common sense she wouldn't have made a lot of the decisions she had made. It was a bit annoying to me. However, that said, I am trying to decide if I want to continue the series. I didn't hate the book, but it could have been a whole lot more satisfying.

First of all, mad props to Lani for coming up with an utterly unique and intriguing storyline. The only other book that I can think of that dealt kind of dealt with astral projection was A Certain Slant of Light, and that really isn't the same thing. I am always impressed when an author (especially one in the highly competitive Paranormal YA market) comes up with a new and interesting plotline.

Besides the storyline, I think that one of the elements that sets this book apart is the many plot twists. There were plenty of times when I thought I had everything figured out, only to have the rug swept out from under my feet. I don't know about you guys, but as a reader, I love it when that happens.

Woodland's writing was also superb. No matter how you feel about the story, you have to admit she has talent. Her descriptions and just general writing style was flawless. The characters were also all beautifully written. I particularly enjoyed Brent; Yara's love interest (the boy she saves). Their relationship develops at a realistic pace. In a lot of today's Paranormal YA books, the relationships develop almost like Romance novels - which is strange and unsettling to me. It is refreshing to see a book go at a believable pace.

The only issue I had with the book was with the villain, or rather with the villain plotline. You see, when Yara and Brent are being chased around by the bad guy, he pulls a total Bond Villain move. You know what I mean? You know how in all of the old James Bond movies, the villain takes the time to explain his plan for world domination and then comes up with some time consuming torturous plan to kill Bond - giving him enough time to escape? That's exactly what happens here. The villian just kind of sits back and watches Brent and Yara as they get stronger and stronger. It is explained why in the book, but it just doesn't make sense to me.

Other than the Bond-equse Villain, I truly enjoyed this book. I think that Woodland did a marvelous job creating and crafting the storyline and characters. Her writing is exquisite and I am looking forward to reading the next book in the trilogy.

Let me just start out by saying how much I love the title of the book, it's so much fun to say! Okay, now onto the actual review ;)

The idea of Wakers and astral projection was what lured me into this book in the first place (Aside from the promise of a sweet romance). And it made this not your average ghost story, but about a hundred times better. It moved at a nice, steady, pace. Nothing was too rushed and was dragged out for forever either.

I loved that, when the story started, Yara was saving Brent, not the other way around.

Speaking of Brent, I loved him, despite his cocky attitude, because he really does care about Yara, even though he sometimes he doesn't show it very well. He always comes through for her where it counts.

I have to admit, I went into panic-mode there for awhile, because I had no clue how Brent and Yara were going to get out of the situation they were in. Seriously, I didn't think it was even possible.

I'm so glad I was given the chance to read this book, it's definitely one of my favorites. I'm so beyond excited for the sequel, so I can see what happens next.

Yara Silva is not your normal -average teenage girl. She's part of a family, that all the line of Brazil females are walkers. to be able to see, and speak to ghosts. but, she does not want this life, so she avoids her lessons with vovo(her grandmother).
Cherie, her best friend, and her are now attending a school, that was once for only guys, but now is mixed with guys and girls. There has been deaths at this school, and that is the reason they are going. Yara, only goes, because her friend made her. Cherie wants to find out more about the deaths, but on the way they meet to guys, Steave and Brent. Brent seems hesitant on the subject, but Steave digs right in, for Cheries sake. Yara doesn't know, that her once fears......are becoming more and more certain.

The pacing was occasionally sluggish, but the danger and suspense worked together to fuel a dark, romantic read. Full review coming soon.

Intrinsical is the first book in the Yara Silva trilogy. I was initially drawn to this book by the striking cover and the intriguing premise. Intrinsical is a suspenseful and fast paced read and kept me up late reading. It is a scarier story than I had expected, and I realized it was not the best idea to read this late at night. There is a steady level of tension in the book and some unexpected twists to keep your interest. The writing flowed nicely with plenty of detail and vivid descriptions.

As the protagonist, Yara is a strong heroine. She starts out lacking confidence, but the character shows growth throughout the book as she learns to live with her paranormal gift. Yara’s relationship with Brent is believable and builds slowly. She and Cherie have a strong friendship and make a good team researching the Pendrell curse.

The ghost story was the most compelling for me due to the surprises and the intricate plot. There are high stakes involved and a scary villain to defeat that kept me turning the pages. This story should appeal to fans of ghost stories and romance, and one that came to mind while I was reading this was Shadowed Summer. In the sequel I would be interested to learn more about the origin of Yara’s Waker gift, and find out more about her grandmother.

Per Goodreads, the next book of the series is titled Indelible and should be published in September of this year.
