After watching the movie, I was afraid that most of the major plot points would be ruined for me...

I was mistaken. Sure, some of the moments of Jason's memory-loss and "misty" uncertainty about his past were not as mystifying to me, but the plot as a whole had an entirely different and fresh angle.

Ludlum's writing style was swift and descriptive. He wasted no space but showed the reader every glint of sunlight off an exposed handgun barrel leaking out of a coat pocket and every subtlety of movement in the fast-paced action sequences.

The book was thrilling as well. There were several times that I had arrived at home, yet stayed in my car to finish a chapter because I could not wait to know what was going to happen. There were many moments of pure astonishment and surprise that kept me listening.

It is a very entertaining listen/read and will without a doubt transport you to the world of spy-craft with ease.

Read if you want to know what Jason Bourne's real name is.

The pacing is quite good in the beginning and the end, but that only leaves room for some absolutely boring middle 'play' that seems to become too long and too silly.

Definitely, in this one Robert Ludlum tried to write about love, and it gets out as pathetic as it gets in every Hollywood movie. It simply doesn't convince anyone, the characters simply don't work together.

Many people said that the Matt Damon movie had a worse story, but to be perfectly honest, this story is forgettable too, while Matt Damon as Bourne is believable.

The writing is good, and alert, and with the notable exception of the middle part, it works well, and reads fast.

If I could give it 3.5 stars, I would. I will read the rest in the original trilogy, though, and then watch the movies which I hear have very little to do with these books.

A book that I loved, an absolute must read, and now a favorite of mine. It’s a book that will live on my shelves forever and I would re-read in the future. I would pick up anything else by this author without question. This book is now one of my all-time favorites,

I watched the movie before reading the book because I didn’t know it was one. I liked the movie but I LOVED this book. It had me hooked from page one. My only regret is that I didn’t read it sooner. It’s nothing like the movie. The character isn’t even described as looking like Matt Damn but if you’ve seen the move that is who you will end up picturing the whole book.

"The first of three novels about Jason Bourne, hero extraordinaire, and a man who leaves no stone unturned. It is now a major movie starring Matt Damon . Who is Jason Bourne? And why does he have four million dollars in a Swiss bank account. It is a good question. And one, to which, Jason doesn't know the answer. He has lost his memory, and his search to find out who he is and what he has done starts with one clue: somebody wants him dead. The more information Jason discovers, the more terrifying his quest becomes." (From Amazon)

I don't usually like spy novels but I really enjoyed this book. I loved the movies as well.

Could not actually finish this. For an action book that was turned into one of my favorite action movies, what an effing snooze. I had known that the book and movie were only loosely alike but had not realized just how much; Marie's character was impossibly annoying in the book (but I thinks he was supposed to come across as a strong female character?). The first "I love you, goddammit" made me roll my eyes, and more than once after a character declared something, followed by "goddammit" and wow. Just terrible.
