I had high hopes for this book, since I loved Arcanthus’ installment, but I was a bit disappointed. The premise was super cute, with the whole second chance romance after years spent involuntarily (mostly) apart. The MCs had their sweet moments and some solid backstories. However, I wanted more from the MCs. They had a few meaningful conversations on page, but not enough to really make me feel super invested in their love after they were reunited. Childhood love is great and all, but the amount of time they spent apart, especially since it was through so many formative years, wasn’t taken into account. People change a lot during their late teens and 20s. Both MCs had some personal growth, although a lot of the responsibility for what went wrong and the delay in reconnecting was placed on him. Why couldn’t she have taken some initiative?

Spice: 2/5

Triggers: abduction and beginning of trafficking, violence, grief from parent loss, distant parent, violence, murder

ENTWINED FATES has been on my TBR for a long time and it's also my first Tiffany Roberts book. Kiara (human) and Volcair (alien) met as children because their parents were diplomats but a new assignment and the distance of space kept them apart for a long time. I liked this one alright, the writing was smooth and the spice was good, but the tropes used aren't my favorites. I wish we'd had more chapters of Kiara and Volcair as adults building their relationship rather than so much of them as kids and teenagers.

But I am looking forward to reading book 1 in the series and seeing more of the Infinite City and all the different aliens that inhabit it.

Content Warning: references to human trafficking; extended separation of the MCs

Nice origin story. Fated mates is a sweet trope! Love how they love and how they come together in the end. Lovely to see the beginning and introduce to old and new friends.

Beautiful short story that gripped me and made me wish the story of these two lovers from young went on longer.

I loved it. I normally don’t go for second chance romances because the books usually start after the MCs fell in love, but here we’re told the whole story, in a linear fashion (no flashbacks, I don’t like those very much either), and the reader gets to see how the fell for each other and how their feelings changed over time. I like the writing style, and I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

This was fine but there wasn’t enough conflict for me and I would have liked more apprehension surrounding the nature of a interspecies relationship.
